Paint without warping on stone-based boards that stay flat and taut
Calcium carbonate creates a surface that behaves differently than cellulose paper, water sits on top rather than soaking in, giving you extended working time with alcohol inks and water-based paints. Yasutomo mounts 150 gsm mineral paper onto rigid backing boards that eliminate the stretching and warping you'd get with traditional watercolor paper. The stone-based composition resists tearing even when saturated, while the hard backing maintains perfect flatness through aggressive wet techniques.
This non-porous surface lets you lift and manipulate alcohol inks with unusual control, creating effects impossible on absorbent papers. Water media float and blend without immediately penetrating, allowing layering techniques that require precise timing. The rigid construction means no taping, no stretching, no buckling, mount your board and start working immediately.
The three-board assortment includes 5" × 7", 6" × 8", and 8" × 10" sizes for testing techniques or working through a series at different scales. Mineral paper's unique properties reward experimentation with materials that typically behave unpredictably, giving you reproducible results once you understand how this surface handles your chosen medium.
